JOHN COOK AND MARTHA E. HUDDLESTON

John Cook was born 1812/1815 in Kentucky (poss. Clark Co, KY).  He married Martha E. Huddleston August 9, 1833 in Wilson Co, TN.  They had the following children:  Nathaniel, Caren F., Nancy L, Margaret E., Charles T., John William, Sarah, James Robert, Eli, Dorcas "Dora", Catherwood, and Lincoln.

John Cook is found in the 1840 census in Lawrence Co, TN listed next to Charles Cook Jr.  In the 1850 census he and Martha are listed in Hickory Co, Missouri.  They are also in Hickory Co, MO is 1860 and 1870.  John and Martha cannot be found after 1870 so it is possible that they died before 1870.

Many of their children have not been located after 1870.  It is quite a mystery.  It is possible that the entire family moved to another county or state and perhaps that's why they are not found after 1870.  James Robert Cook was born Nov. 17, 1856 in Hickory Co., Missouri.  His first wife was Liddia Ann Lapp.  They had one son, Charles Arthur Cook b. Feb. 23, 1778 in Missouri.  His second wife was Mary Marinda Smallwood.  James worked for the railroad and traveled around quite a bit.  Apparently he took his family with him because his children were born in several different states.  They finally settled in Oregon after 1903.  James and Mary had the following children:

William Earl, b. Oct. 10, 1888 in New Mexico
Elmer Raymond, b. March 29, 1891 in Kansas
Ernest Elta "Eldie", b. Oct. 2, 1893 in Coffeyville, Kansas
Evelyn, b. Dec. 23, 1895 in Kansas
Mary Iva Lena, b. Mar. 6, 1900 in Nevada Twp, Vernon Co., Missouri
James Robert Jr., b. Oct. 20, 1903 in Boise, Idaho
John Thomas "Tom", b. Jan. 15, 1907 in Oregon

Nancy L. Cook was born 1841/1842 in Missouri.  She married Daniel Bartshe b. April 13, 1826 in Wooster, Wayne, Ohio.  They had the following children:  Dorcas Eveline, John Tarif, and Franklin.

John William Cook was born Sept. 11, 1850 in Hickory Co., Missouri.  He married Rebecca Jane Bartshe, sister of Daniel.  They had the following children:  Dullceney, Missouri Ann, William Alexander, Rose Ellen Eva, Nora Elmira, Minnie Grace, Arthur Marion, Arizonia May, George Washington, Sena, and Arvilla Virginia.

Dorcas "Dora" Cook was born Sept. 16, 1864 in Deerfield, Vernon Co., Missouri.  Her first husband was Irenas Taylor.  Their children were:  Walter and Fay.  Her second husband was George W. Zimmerman.  Their children were: Sara Catherine, Robert Oscar, Hattie, Nellie, Grace May and Freddie.

MARGARET "PEGGY" COOK AND JOHN ANDERSON

Margaret "Peggy" Cook married John Anderson April 9, 1828 in Lawrence Co, TN.  Margaret was probably the daughter of Charles Cook Sr.  The children of Margaret and John Anderson were Charles W. (1830), William C. (1832), James M. (1834), Nancy C. (1836), Unity A. E. (1837), Samuel Franklin (March 30, 1839), Martha (1841), Sarah M. (1844) and John R. (1846).  This information was obtained from census records.

In the 1830 Federal Census we find John Anderson age 20-30 listed in Lawrence Co, TN with one young male age 0-10 and the two adults.  The young male is presumed to be Charles W.  They were listed very near William Cook, Margaret's brother.  Also there was a William Anderson age 40-50.  William is believed to be the uncle of John.

In the 1840 Federal Census we find John Anderson age 30-40 listed in Lawrence Co, TN on the same page with Moses Anderson age 30-40.  Moses was probably the brother of John.  Also there was Samuel Anderson age 20-30.  Samuel was also probably the brother of John.  Samuel married Dyara Cook, possible daughter of Charles Cook Jr.  Moses Anderson went to Polk Co, Missouri along with Charles Cook Jr. and others from Lawrence Co, TN.

In the 1850 Federal Census we find John Anderson in Lawrence Co, TN with nine children.  His wife Margaret is not listed, so it is presumed that she died prior to 1850.  The youngest child (John R.) was born ca 1846, so she probably died between 1846 and 1850.  Living next door was Benjamin Anderson born ca 1780 in Virginia.  It is believed that Benjamin was the father of John, Samuel and Moses.

Benjamin Anderson was in Allen Co, Kentucky in 1820 and 1830.  Other researchers show that John Anderson was born in Scottsville, Allen Co, Kentucky in ca. 1807.  Benjamin was married to Hester, born ca. 1781 in Virginia.  It is believed their children were: John (1807), Moses (1812), Samuel (1817), Martha A. (1818), Robert (1819) and Sarah A. (1824).  Three other children are listed in the 1820 census who have not been identified.

Also listed in the 1820 Federal Census of Allen Co, KY were Andrew Anderson age 45+ and Jonathan Anderson age 26-45.  It is believed that Andrew Anderson was the father of Benjamin and Jonathan.

From the documents of Samuel Franklin Anderson shown on the previous page, we learn that his mother was Margaret Cook, his father was John Anderson and his mother's father was Charles Cook.  This matches information gleaned from census records.  In document #2 we learn that Samuel's great-grandmother on his mother's side was Margaret Johnson from Scotland.  We have already established the belief that Charles Cook Sr. was the son of Thomas Cook born ca 1740/1750.  Therefore, the wife of Thomas Cook was probably Margaret Johnson from Scotland.

SUSANNAH COOK AND WILLIAM C. MONTGOMERY

Records show that Susannah Cook, daughter of William Cook and Elizabeth, and granddaughter of Charles Cook Sr., married William C. Montgomery September 26, 1839 in Lawrence, TN.  William and Susannah were found in 1850 and 1860 census records living in Polk Co, Missouri.  Also there were Charles Cook Jr. (brother of Susannah) and James Montgomery.

In the 1820 Federal census a John Montgomery was listed in Lawrence Co, TN with 3 young males in the household.  In the 1830 Federal census a Thomas Montgomery age 30-40 was listed in Lawrence Co, TN with 7 males in the household.  Thomas was possibly the son of John.  Thomas was born between 1790 and 1800.  In the 1850 Federal Census of Polk Co, Missouri we find a James Montgomery born ca 1798 in TN.  James was possibly the brother of Thomas since he was born in the same generation.  James was probably the father of William C. Montgomery.

In the 1870 Federal Census William and Susannah (Susan) were in Greene Co, Missouri, next door to Susannah's parents, William and Elizabeth Cook.  William was the brother of Charles Cook Jr. He was born ca 1794 in Franklin, NC.

VIANNA COOK AND WILLIAMSON ROGERS

Vianna Cook married Williamson Rogers August 1, 1832 in Lawrence Co, TN.  Vianna was born ca. 1812 in TN.  She is believed to be the daughter of Charles Cook Sr. and sister of Charles Cook Jr. and Margaret "Peggy" Cook.  Williamson Rogers was listed in the 1830 Federal Census in Lawrence Co, TN on the same page with Thomas Cook.  (It is possible that Vianna was the daughter of Thomas instead of Charles Sr.  Thomas Cook was the brother of Charles Cook Sr.).  Both Thomas and Charles had females Vianna's age in their households in the 1820 and 1830 census records.

In the 1840, 1850 and 1860 Federal Census Williamson Rogers was listed in Tishomingo, Mississippi.  From these records we learn that Vianna and Williamson had the following children: William G. (1833), Elizabeth (1835), Eliza J. (1835), Mary C. (1839), Sarah A. (1841), James M. (1843), Thomas J. (1845), Susanna (1847), Charlotte (1848), Martha (1850), John W. (1853) and Henry W. T. (1857).

In the 1870 Federal Census they were living in Prentiss Co, MS.  According to information obtained from the following web site:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/e/s/Tracie-J-Sessums/GENE2-0011.html

Williamson Rogers was the son of William Perry Rogers and Letitia Rosanna Heard.  William Perry Rogers was the son of Doswell Rogers born in Tyrone, Ireland or York Co, Virginia.  Doswell was the son of Thomas Rogers born in Ireland.

Williamson and Vianna Rogers moved to Tishomingo, Mississippi along with Thomas Montgomery, uncle of William C. Montgomery who married Susannah Cook.

DYARA COOK AND SAMUEL ANDERSON

Dyara Cook was born ca. 1820 in Tennessee.  She married Samuel Anderson (b. ca 1817 in Kentucky)  on June 27, 1839 in Lawrence Co, TN.  Dyara was probably the daughter of Charles Cook Jr. and his first wife (unknown).  Samuel was probably the son of Benjamin Anderson and Hester, and brother of John Anderson who married Margaret Cook.

In the 1840 Federal census we find Samuel Anderson age 30-40 listed next to Allen Green who married Sandel L. Cook May 8, 1842 in Lawrence Co, TN.  Sandel was probably a cousin or sister of Dyara.

In the 1850 Federal Census we find Samuel and Dyara in Hickory Co, Missouri along with John Cook and his wife Martha Huddleston.  John was probably the brother of Dyara.

In the 1860 Federal census we find Samuel and Dyara still listed in Hickory Co, Missouri.  Their children were:

William Riley b. Aug 30, 1840 Lawrence TN
Martha A. b. abt 1846 Hickory MO
Sarah A. b. abt 1849 Hickory MO
Benjamin E. A. b. abt 1851 Hickory MO
Margaret b. abt 1854 Hickory MO
James Harris b. abt. 1857 Hickory MO
Franklin Joseph b. abt 1863 MO
