MA -thanks for sending that link for Stephen Smallwood in Texas. I found them in the 1900 census in Kaufman, TX and Phebe was living with them. I find it interesting that Stephen's birth place was Kentucky - 1900 census says Dec. 1851. I didn't know that Phebe and Hezekiah were in Kentucky - did you? This makes me think he was the son of the "E" Smallwood with the land grant in 1852 Rockcastle. I can't find Elijah Jr. in the 1840 census - and we can't find our Hez in that census either - maybe they were living near each other and didn't get counted for some reason.

and Lucy Ann Gordon. Her generation moved to Laurel from Lee, and previously
Owsley County. David's parents were James S Smallwood and Caroline Bullock.
