I am trying to locate the names of Churchwell B. and Andy SMALLWOOD's parent. It is believed that Churchwell and Andy were born in North Carolina and later moved to McNairy Co., TN (with parents or as adults??) Churchwell B. SMALLWOOD (my ggggrandfather) was born @ 1806 in NC??, d. 1880 in McNairy Co., TN, m. Sarah (SHOALT/STROUP??) b. 1814 in TN, d. 1879 in McNairy Co., TN. Both are buried in Old Smallwood Homeplace in McNairy Co., TN. Churchwell and Sarah had the following children: Mary Ann b. 1834; Jefferson b. 1836; William b. 1838; Elizabeth b. 1840, m. Robert LUTTRELL; George Day (my gggrandfather) b. Mar 20 1843, d. May 29, 1914, m. Mary Annabelle Buenavista SMALLWOOD; Sara J. b. 1845; James Polk b. 1847; Paralle b. 1850; Belvadeer b. 1852; Samuel b. 1855; and Carolina b. 1857. Andy SMALLWOOD was born @ 1804 in NC?? m. Nancy?? They had the following children: Alameda b. 1843, m. John HOLMES 21 Aug 1870 in McNairy Co., TN; William (Bud) b. Nov 16, 1845, d. Mar 21, 1901; Charles (Weet) b. 1848; & Mary Annabella Buenavista b. Jan 29, 1851 d. Mar 29, 1925. I realize that the children were all born in TN but some decendants may have returned to North Carolina and have some history (hopefully). It's possible that Hesekiah was one of the males age 0-5 in 1830 but he wasn't listed in the 1840 census??? He would have been about 14 - maybe he was living elsewhere working on a farm. Everything else fits - Hesekiah was born abt 1826 in TN. I don't have any Elisha Smallwoods in my database born between 1790 and 1800 - do you? I have one born in 1802 but he was prob born and died in Georgia.

An interesting, but unexplained sidelight to these proceedings, is that according to the 1787 Census of Virginia - Berkeley County Tax List A, Henry AMBROSE paid the taxes for himself, his son, Mathias, and a "P. STORM".

He was married to Sarah in 1760 in Berkeley Co., Virginia. One source says her name was Sarah Margaret; another says Sarah Catherine. Her maiden name is not known. An obvious possibility is HANBY. Another possibility to be researched is SMALLWOOD. According to the IGI, her grandson, John Bell, named a daughter Sarah Catherine Smallwood Ambrose. Another IGI record shows Sarah C. Ambrose as the sponsor/relative for the baptism of Wilkinson SMALLWOOD born 1822 in Kentucky. Sarah could have been living in 1822, although we have no knowledge of any of her descendants going to Kentucky.

Milton married Mary Silver,and they had five children: Frances,Walter,Henry,Warren,and Ann.

Charles Winegar(Weniger) married Eliza Wheeler whose father's ancestors came from England before the War of 1776 and settled in VA. Her GGGrandmother was a full blooded Cherokee Indian squaw doctor in us territory--KY.before the gov. sent the cherokee to indian Territory.
Eliza's GGGrandfather was JNO.JOHNSTON whose parents came from Sweden. One of the Johnston's daughters(name unknown) married LEE SMALLWOOD, Lee Smallwood was from NC of English descent. Thier son Elisha,married Eliza JOHNSON (no kin to Johnston) whose parents came from sweden. They had 3 children; Tabytha,1840,Jimmie,1842,and Elizabeth,1844. Elisha did not live long after the war.

Elizabeth Smalwood married Hezekiah Wheeler,born 1840,whose ancestors were of English descent and were located in VA. before coming to KY. Elizabeth and Hezekiah had three children: Willie,Doug.and Eliza. Eliza married Charles E. Winegar,and they had two boys:Walter,1887,Milton,1889. Milton married Mary Silver,and they had five children: Frances,Walter,Henry,Warren,and Ann.

VA in the early 1800s. in IN in 1823, in Platte Co MO in 1839, came to OR in 1851.
He had 10 children with Sarah: William, Stephen, Frances, Henry, Rachel, Chaney, Gabriel, Mary Bell, Elizabeth. Dulcina.
He had 5 more by Margaret: Hewitt, Jesse, Josephine, Rufus, and Virginia.
This Thomas Ring was the son of Stephen Ring (B. ca 1775) and Rachel Smallwood (b.1775). Stephen died from war wounds in NC 31 Aug 1816. On 1820 census Rachel is listed as head of household in Russell Co. VA and 4 children living with her, living next to Thomas. She continued to live wth Thomas or next door to him through the 1850 census.
