March 30, 1766–proved August court 1766 – WILLIAM SMALLWOOD wills to son JAMES one shilling;
to ELIJAH SMALLWOOD, one shilling; to my daughter ELIZABETH TARVIN, to daughter MARY DUELL,
to daughter ASENETH FOSTER, to daughter EIZZA ADCOCK, to each one shilling;
to wife MARY SMALLWOOD for her life, ½ of remainder of estate and, at her death,
to divide to sons ELISHA and WILLIAM SMALLWOOD.
Exrs: my wife Mary, son ELISHA SMALLWOOD.
Wts: PEYTON CLEMENTS, ELIZABETH CLEMENTS.

WILLIAM SMALLWOOD (signs by mark). Will, dat. March 30, 1766, prob. Aug.
Ct. 1766. Bequeaths one shilling sterling each to the following; sons James and
Elijah Smallwood, and dauts. Elisabeth Turvin, Mary Duell, Assenath Forster and
Lizza Adcock; (2) to wife Mary half of the remainder of all his
est., and after her decease it is to be equally div. bet. sons Elisha and Wm.;
and (3) to said sons Elisha and Wm. the other half of all his est. Exs: wife
and son Elisha. Wit: Peyton Claments (sic), Elisabeth Claments (sic). Id. p.19.
Inv. of est. sold at “Publick Vandue” ret. to Nov. Ct. 1766; refers
to ”one Negro wench”. Id. p.35.
William married Mary
Hanson. Mary was born Feb. 4, 1709 in Charles, MD and died after 11 Aug 1787 in Granville Co., NC.
She was the daughter of Samuel Hanson and Elizabeth Story.

Aug. 11, 1787 _ MARY SMALLWOOD to BOLLING ADCOCK for a bond made to me for
fifty hundred thousand pounds for my maintenance and support deeds to him a negro,
feather bed and furniture, household furniture and all stock.
