1 NOTE !WAR: Civil War Veteran, Maxine's "Shafer Family in Dunn County", saysthat
2 CONT Simon was drafted into the Calvary in Nov 1863 from Dunn co. WI, and was
2 CONT mustered out in July 1865.   He lived with
2 CONT his brother Andrew and Joanna in 1860 in Dunn co.  Andrew was a laborerwith a
2 CONT worth of $200.  Single Simon was a farmer and worth more - $300.
2 CONT After the war Simon settled in the town of Weston and owned a 120 acrefarm.
2 CONT He alone retained the original spelling of the Shaffer family name,keeping the
2 CONT second "f".  Simon stayed single and died young at the age of 61 in 1894.
2 CONT Andrew and Joanna took over Simon's farm & then passed the land on totheir
2 CONT son, Alvin.
2 CONT Simon and brother William, who died in 1856 at the young age of 25, sharea
2 CONT tombstone marker in the Shaffer Family cemetery.

2 CONT They were among the first who settled in the Tulpehocken Settlement in1723 and were one of th

2 CONT The church was called Rieth's or Zion's Church and was completed in1727.  It was made out o
2 CONC f crude logs and the pulpit was a huge roundblock, the base of a tree.  Seats were split logs
2 CONC .  There was nofire-place..  This church stood in the corner of the cemetery atStouchsburg un

2 CONT nineteenth century, when it was destroyed by fire.  However, in 1742,dissatisfaction among th

2 CONT The summer of 1708 started the journey for the Walborn Family to America.They traveled down t
2 CONC he Rhine to Rotterdam, Holland by boat. A long,tedious trip, arriving in London with thousand
2 CONC s of other Germans,destitute and eager to take advantage of Queen Anne's offer to establish
2 CONC a Colony in New York, America!  Ten vessels were loaded with over 3,000Germans, including ou
2 CONC r Hans Adam Walborn, Peter Batdorf, Johann Peter Fegand Johannes Risch families.  They left E
2 CONC ndland the 25th of December,1709  and after a long, terrible six months, arrived in New Yor
2 CONC k  inJune, 1710.
2 CONT That Fall, about 1,400 were moved 100 miles up the Hudson River, toLivingston Manor.  All ou
2 CONC r families among those moving.  They were underindenture to serve Queen Anne as grateful subj
