Sandy, most of my notes are not authenticated and I have the following sources for diffeent or maybe the same John Moore. I assumed he was son of Hiram Moore. I do know that Hiram C. Moore, his son Jerome G Moore and Jno. C. Moore were all in Company K in Sept 22, 1861 at Camp Dick Robinson, Kentucky ; 7th kentucky Volunteer Army Infantry. These are the other notes I have found for a John Moore. Dont know if all apply. Get back to me on this.

I think any reference to a John C. is probably the son of Moses Moore and Alcie Elmore. Here's my notes:

My Notes: Jerome G is probably son of Hiram C. Moore. John C. is probably John Campbell Moore, son of Moses and Alcie. James Moore, son of Hiram Moore was born in 1849 (1860 census records) - he would only be 12 years old in 1861 and James was born abt 1853 - he was too young also,

I'm going to leave the marriage of Tennessee McDaniel to John Campbell Moore in my database.

Were you able to find the source for Hiram's wife? I can't find any backup on that marriage but I haven't spent that much time looking yet.

Ronda - I found this family in Rockcastle Co and I can't find any database references to them. It looks like his wife was Catherine Milburn. I have a strong feeling this is the same William because Catherine is living with Thomas Forbes in 1860 and the Forbes family was closely connected to Lemuel Moore. Thomas Forbes was the son of John (Jr.) and Ann Forbes of Laurel Co. John Forbes Jr. was the son of John Forbes Sr. born in Shenandoah VA Aug 25 1879. If your William Moore was married to Martha Overbay and Telitha Bustle (for sure) then we may not be researching the same William Moore. However, Catherine could have died young and Wm may have remarried. William and Catherine were married in Rockcastle Co:

His name is William F. Moore and was born 1850-51 and died June 10,1923. Willaim married at least twice and had several children by both wives. His first wife was Martha Overbay and they had the following children to my knowledge.
Billy,Greene,Sue Ellen,Martha,John and Albert who was called Pall. Willaim's family is listed in the Laurel County Census when he was a child and his parents are James Moore and Mary Moore. James was born in Greene County TN.
William's second wife was Tertha Lilitha (Tilitha) Bustle
who's parents were James and Melvina French Bustle.
William and Tilitha were married May 30,1889 and had the following children: Myrtle,Claude,Flaurdie,Fitz U. "Lee"

Sandy, I have the obit form the paper on Pall Moore and I saw the marriage license at a courthouse somewhere but I am not able to remember where. Betty Jane Branson, Mary's granddaughter, recalls knowing Mary in her childhood. Mary was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis in her later years and was confined to a wheel chair. Betty recalls that Mary lived with them on several occasions. Betty's father, Gus Oren, loved to tell jokes and Betty remembers her grandmother laughing uproariously at Oren's joke telling. She was quite a sight to see, with no teeth, laughing loudly, and slapping her hands on the arms of her wheel chair. She was quite a character.

1. Addie is the oldest. she married a man named Harris. They lived in Kansas City, and also she moved to Philadelphia some time or other.
2. Elmer lived in Hannibal, Mo. or near there.
3. Ritta lived in Marshall, Mo. about 35 miles from Sedalia, Mo.
4. Oath was born Feb. 2, 1900. In 1959 he lived in California in the LA area. He had twin girls who were 13 or 14 years old April, 1959.
5. This son, don't know his name lived in Phili also. He died of a heart attack in 1952.
6. This son lived in Phili.
7. Henry. Not sure if this is John's son or not but, Margaret made mention of him in the letter when she was talking about John's children. He was married to Mary and lived about 20 miles from Nevada, in 1959.
8. Rufus Crane Smallwood, born Jan. 12, 1884 in Nevada,
Mo. Married Margaret Oct. 12, 1909 in St. Louis, Mo.
They lived in Sedalia, Mo. in the same house for 42
years as of 1959.
Margaret was born June, 1889. She was full German
decent and said she was a member of the Catholic
Church. She still drove herself to Mass every morning,
as of 1959. Rufus had and M. had 2 sons and 2
daughters. She says in her letter that they have 20
Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren. However
she does not give any more info about them.
Rufus was a railroad man. He died Dec. 23, 1951 with
a sudden heart attack. He died 2 years to the day of his
death.

The year 1863 was "the most woeful" in Vernon County's history. "Back and forth into Missouri rode the Kansas Jayhawkers; back and forth into Kansas rode the Missouri guerrillas; back and forth into loyal Cedar rode the Vernon Bushwhackers; back and forth into rebel Vernon rode the Cedar militia." Montevallo was burned by Iowa troops on April 14th, 1862. Farms were burned and pillaged. Men and boys were slain. Normal life, schooling, churches and law courts, had become a dim memory. The few families who hadn't fled south, struggling to carry on in a normal way, "had a hard time of it. They were preyed upon by both sides".
