2 CONC h, east of Newcastle around 1953.  He & Grandma movedto Sheridan, Wy about 1960, where he wor
2 CONC ked on another large ranch untilhis death.  He was irrigating fields, came in for lunch, sa
2 CONC t down to restfor a few minutes after they ate and never woke up.   He was a large,tall man w
2 CONC ho never said very much & very soft spoken.  All I can rememberhim doing was working and sitt
2 CONC ing in the living room listening to theradio or records.  I was the oldest grandchild and spe
2 CONC nt a lot of mysummers with them.  We all lived closed to Newcastle until 1959 or 60.Now we'r
2 CONC e all gone from there (1996).

2 CONT In the early ‘40s, Junior drove a team pulling a sled with a wood stovein the back as a schoo
2 CONC l bus. Upon leaving the ranch, he worked for theU.S. Forest Service at Hardy Ranger Station n
2 CONC ear O’Neil Pass in SouthDakota.  He and his brother Ervin had a Sawmill on Stockade Beaver Cr
2 CONC eekin Weston County, WY. He later drove the Stockade Beaver Creek Highschool bus to Newcastle
2 CONC .  He then worked for Jack Graham Service Stationand carried mail along the Morrisey route
2 CONC .  Bertha and Junior moved toSpearfish in 1960 where he became known as Ross.  He worked fo
2 CONC r the U.S.Forest Service again and retired from there in 1981.

2 CONT He was a great family man and dearly loved hunting and fishing with otherfamily members.

2 CONT He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha in 1994, his parents, RossW. in 1984 and Lorell
2 CONC a in 1982, one sister, Anna Marie Rawhouser in 1994,and 2 brothers-in-law.

2 CONC l was located in the lateral files at the NorthCarolina State Archives in Raleigh, North Caro
2 CONC lina.  These notes havebeen valuable in other parts of our Huntsucker research but a note onp
2 CONC age 25 was especially important.  The War of 1812 pension application ofCatharine Strickland
2 CONC , widow of William Strickland is cited as Claimnumber 28782 and states that Catharine Huntsuc
2 CONC ker was married to WilliamStrickland on 11 March, 1815 in Warren County, Tennessee by EdmundT
2 CONC aylor, Justice of the Peace.  From later census data, we were able todetermine that Catharin
2 CONC e Huntsucker who married William Strickland was
2 CONT born in 1799/1800 in North Carolina and that she was the daughter ofPeter Huntsucker b 1765-1
2 CONC 770.  This was a valuable piece of informationthat aided us with several other sources of Hun
2 CONC tsucker data.  We willdiscuss the importance of identifying Catharine Huntsucker Stricklandla
2 CONC ter.  Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.  The reason forthis statement is that whe
2 CONC n we sent for the subject pension applicationnumber, the claim was for a Catharine Stricklan
2 CONC d who married John C.Strickland.   Although both William Strickland and John C Strickland are
2 CONC shown to have served under Captain A. Hill of the Tennessee Militia inthe War of 1812, the na
2 CONC tional Archives have thus far been unable tolocate the pension file for William Strickland
2 CONC .  Even though we neverreceived the pension application, the marriage date of 11 March 1815 f
2 CONC orWilliam and Catharine appears to be correct based on the age of theirchildren.

2 CONT The pension file on John C Strickland and Catharine Huntsucker turned outto be also be an imp
2 CONC ortant source of information.  Catharine Huntsuckerwas born about 1793 in North Carolina an
2 CONC d John C. Strickland was bornabout 1791 in North Carolina.  This Catharine Huntsucker has bee
2 CONC ndetermined to be the daughter of John Huntsucker b 1751.  John Stricklandwas discharged in N
2 CONC ew Orleans on 13 May 1815.  In her pensionapplication, Catharine Huntsucker says that she mar
2 CONC ried John Stricklandat McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee on 18th (Month illegible),1815
2 CONC .  Squire Tayler (Taylor) Justice of the Peace married John andCatharine.  John Strickland an
2 CONC d Catharine Huntsucker were in MontgomeryCounty, Missouri in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 Missour
