Catharine One HUNSUCKER

Elaine,
I do have most of the answers to your two Catharine Huntsuckers plustheir ancestory back for 4 or five more generations. I am going to pastein a section that is part of a self published book that some
Huntsuckers are putting together. If it sounds like what you are lookingfor, I will give you a URL where you can read and copy as much of it asyou like (over 70 pages total). Here is the part that I think
you will be interested in. You should be able to help me with thelocation of William Strickland and Catharine Huntsucker between 1815 and1830. Here is the copy:

A set of unpublished research notes on Huntsuckers by Mrs Patricia NEdwards and Louisa Darnell was located in the lateral files at the NorthCarolina State Archives in Raleigh, North Carolina. These notes havebeen valuable in other parts of our Huntsucker research but a note onpage 25 was especially important. The War of 1812 pension application ofCatharine Strickland, widow of William Strickland is cited as Claimnumber 28782 and states that Catharine Huntsucker was married to WilliamStrickland on 11 March, 1815 in Warren County, Tennessee by EdmundTaylor, Justice of the Peace. From later census data, we were able todetermine that Catharine Huntsucker who married William Strickland was
born in 1799/1800 in North Carolina and that she was the daughter ofPeter Huntsucker b 1765-1770. This was a valuable piece of informationthat aided us with several other sources of Huntsucker data. We willdiscuss the importance of identifying Catharine Huntsucker Stricklandlater. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. The reason forthis statement is that when we sent for the subject pension applicationnumber, the claim was for a Catharine Strickland who married John C.Strickland. Although both William Strickland and John C Strickland areshown to have served under Captain A. Hill of the Tennessee Militia inthe War of 1812, the national Archives have thus far been unable tolocate the pension file for William Strickland. Even though we neverreceived the pension application, the marriage date of 11 March 1815 forWilliam and Catharine appears to be correct based on the age of theirchildren.

The pension file on John C Strickland and Catharine Huntsucker turned outto be also be an important source of information. Catharine Huntsuckerwas born about 1793 in North Carolina and John C. Strickland was bornabout 1791 in North Carolina. This Catharine Huntsucker has beendetermined to be the daughter of John Huntsucker b 1751. John Stricklandwas discharged in New Orleans on 13 May 1815. In her pensionapplication, Catharine Huntsucker says that she married John Stricklandat McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee on 18th (Month illegible),1815. Squire Tayler (Taylor) Justice of the Peace married John andCatharine. John Strickland and Catharine Huntsucker were in MontgomeryCounty, Missouri in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 Missouri censuses. Adaughter Charity born 1828/29 shows to be born in Tennessee while a sonSeth born 1829/30 is shown to be born in Missouri indicating that JohnStrickland moved to Missouri in 1829 or 1830. John Strickland died near
Oregon, Holt County, Missouri in the spring of 1867. CatharineHuntsucker Strickland died in Oregon, Holt County, Missouri in late 1881or early 1882.

P. S. Elaine, I just noticed that the death date that you posted and thedeath date in the pension application are different. That may besomething else that we might need to discuss.
Ray
