1860 Census: Missouri, Mercer County, Washington Township.
Pvt. Co. C, 23rd Reg't Inf. Vols. Captain Trumbo; enlisted Aug. 5, 1863. Recurit sick in hospital since July 10, 1864; no discharge furnished on this muster out roll. Assigned to Co. K. Military Records. Age 38; 5'11", brown hair, blue eyes, ruddy complexion; farmer; nativity of Limerick, Ireland; place of residence at time of enlistment: Mercer County, MO. Military Records.

Birth date may be 1825 based on enlistment records. Mustered Aug. 6, 1863 - Chillicothe - noted on card for July & Aug 1864 - absent sick at Marietta, GA since July 10, 1864. Appears on Co. Muster-out Roll Atlanta, GA dated Sept. 23, 1864. Temporarily assigned to Co. I 23rd MO Vol under the provisions of circular No. 36 of 64. War Dept. Sept/Oct 1964 - absent sick at Chattanooga TN since July 10 1864 - through card for Nov. & Dec. 1864. Roll dated Jan. 14, 1865 says absent, sick in hospital since July 10, 1864. This note continues through June 1865. Muster-out roll July 18, 1865 near Louisville, KY - non veteran sick in hospital since July 10, 1862 (sic) with description roll provisions being made in G.O. No. 77 W.D. for the discharge of this man elsewhere herefore no discharge furnished on this muster out. Appears on muster-out roll dated May 16, 1865, Chattanooga, TN. Mustered out in accordance with instruction in telegram from War Dept. May 3, 1865 Post Office address Morris Cook, Middlebury, MO. Subsistence and transportation to be furnished to place of enlistment.
