Geneva Agnes, just passed away this summer. Grammie was born July 31, 1906 and died on July 1, 2004 - just 30 days shy of her 98th birthday. She was amazingly healthy and pretty active until just a month before the end. They never lived at the coast - that was another brother and wife. She and Grampie are buried in Albany. They had two daughters - Dorothy - lives in Keizer and married Al Lamer. Daughter #2 is Roberta Gray and lives in Beaverton.

Hi Sandy,
I wrote the paragraph below before I got some interesting news. A cousin of mine had a copy of Dorcas Cook Zimmerman's death certificate and John Cook was listed as her father. Mother was UNK---drat. I will be getting a copy of it. Would you like a copy of my copy? : ) I don't have a clue as to where the Houk came from. It'll be interesting to track that little mystery. So it would seem that Dorcas is my Dora.

I don't have any actual "proof" that Dorcas Cook is my great grandmother's mother. I think I mentioned earlier that my grandmother, when she was about mid 50s wrote down a bunch of family names. She wrote that Sara Catherine's mother was Dora Cook. It's very possible that Dora is a shortened version of Dorcas. In the 1910 Oregon census, her name is listed as Dory. In the 1880 census, while married to Irenas Taylor, Dora listed Tennessee as the birth state for both her parents. John and Martha were born in Tennessee,according to the 1870 Missouri census. Sara's county of birth is Vernon, which is just two counties away to the east from Hickory. I understand questioning the connection. I'm questioning a tiny bit, too. But this all seems to fit in with names, dates and areas. I will do a lot more searching to satisfy myself that this is a true connection.
