OBIT: Ellen Branson

Posted by Judy Germann on Sun, 14 Nov 1999

Surname: BRANSON, HUGHES, WALKINS, CRAWFORD, JAMES, SMITH

Unnamed newspaper, 28 Dec 1911.
Mrs. B.F. Branson Dead

Ellen, wife of B.F. Branson died of diabetes at her home near Weldon, Mo., on Dec 21st, 1911, aged 45 years. She was a native of this county, and 1892 was married to B.F. Branson. Besides her husband three children survive her: Remus, Stella and Byron; also two step children, Jared and Miss Sallie. In addition to these, she leaves to mourn her loss, an aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Hughes, one brother, J.E. Hughes of this county, and three sisters: Mrs James and Walkins, of Miller Co., and Mrs. Jack Crawford of Chicago, Ill., all of whom were summond when it was seen that there was no hope for recovery. One son, William, aged 17 years, preceded his mother in death scarcely a year ago, and to his death seems largely due the rapid decline in Mrs. Branson's health. Being of an ambitious and remarkably energetic nature in spite of the ravages of a disease that was rapidly working its way of ruin through her system, she labored assidiously(sic) and ardently at her household duties working against all kinds of odds so far a(sic) health is concerned. In fact she was at her post of duty until the Saturday before she died. On the night of that day, death had singled out its victim, and determined to have her, notwithstanding all the attention that was bestowed upon her by tender hearts and loving hands. The following Thursday, Dec. 21st, the end came. She yielded to the conqueror and passed away calmly, surrounded by those whom she held near and dear in life. Mrs. Branson enjoyed the respect and esteem of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances and will be greatly missed in this community, as during her life she showed a remarkable trait in her character--nursing and caring for the sick--. Many a "trained nurse" had not acquired the skill in that line which Mrs. Branson possessed. The funeral took place on Dec. 23, from the family residence to the Branson Chapel where services were conducted by Rev. Smith of Crocker, Mo., according to the Baptist Church of which Mrs. Branson was a member for 28 years. A very lengthy cortege escorted the remains from the Church to the family cemetery, and there, close to the grave of the son she so dearly loved and deeply mourned, she was laid to rest. To her bereaved household, to her aged mother, devoted brothers and sisters, naught but the deepest and truest sympathy is extended with the heartfelt wish and prayer that He, who doeth all things well, may grant to those sad hearts strength, and resignation to His Divine Will. A Friend
