RESEARCH NOTES |
It is believed that James A. Fowler was in Kentucky prior to moving to Butler County, Ohio in about 1805/07. His possible brother, Jeremiah Fowler (b. abt 1795) was married to Sarah (Elizabeth) Dewitt Apr 21 1817 in Butler, OH. Sarah was the daughter of Zachariah Price Dewitt who migrated from Kentucky to Butler, OH in 1805. Zachariah Dewitt bought land in Hardin County, KY in 1794. A John Fowler bought land in Hardin County, KY in 1795. Several other researchers have named James Fowler's father as John Fowler but a Benjamin Fowler age 45+ was living in Oxford, Butler, Ohio in 1820 - the same township as James. Benjamin was probably the father of James but Benjamin has not been identified. James A. Fowler is believed to be the father of Felix Dewitt Fowler - another connection to the Dewitt family. James A. Fowler was born in Maryland in about 1787. Other Fowlers in Ohio believed to be brothers to James are: Hezekiah Fowler (b. abt 1785 in MD; Zachariah Fowler (b. abt 1789); Daniel Fowler (b. abt 1792 in MD); Benjamin Fowler (b. abt 1797 in Kentucky; Jeremiah Fowler (b. abt 1795); John fowler (b. abt 1807). Possible sisters: Mary (b. abt 1798 - married Benjamin Freeman); Betsey (born bef 1804 - married Aaron Whitney). James Fowler also served in Zachariah Dewitt's unit during the War of 1812. |
