A limited edition book was written by Forrest Rogers. It contains muchinformation about his life and is much too long to be included here. Veraand Forrest Rogers were married on December 14, 1935, in Palmyra,Missouri. On the way, it started snowing and the roads got slick.Forrest lost control of the car which caused it to go off the road andturn over twice. A passing car stopped to help. They said they did notexpect to find anyone alive. However, neither Vera nor Forrest were hurtmuch -- just scratches and bruises. They were able to pull the fendersout and drive the car on to Palmyra where it was taken to a repair shopfor work on the wheels. Vera and Forrest then went to the courthouse, got a marriage license, and headed for the Christian Church . They weremarried in the parsonage by the minister with his wife's assistance. Theythen went to a restaurant to eat. At 4:00 they picked up the car andheaded for home. A window was broken out of the car which they filledwith a piece of cardboard. More information about this is on pages 77 to80 of Forrest Rogers' book.

Forrest Rogers mother died when he was four years old. For about a yearhe and his two sisters lived with their two grandmothers. However, thegrandmothers decided that Forrest was too much for them to care for.During the time he was living with his grandmother Wilkes, he was bittenby a rabid dog and had to be taken to Chicago for rabies shots. A youngcouple in Iowa who were related to grandmother Wilkes could not havechildren and wanted to adopt him, but his grandmother Wilkes would notallow that because they lived on a farm and she feared for his safety. So, he was taken to Coffeeville, Kansas, by his Aunt Charlotte WilkesHitchens and her daughter, Helen, who was about his age. In Coffeeville,he lived with his grandmother Wilkes' cousins Knudly, Belle, Nettie,Lizzie and Bob Laird. He called them Aunt and Uncle, but they were thechildren of his grandmother Wilkes brother William F. Laird. Forrestdelivered newspapers to make money to help support the family. When hewas a freshman in high school, he took off on his own and traveled allover the western part of the country. He mostly traveled by hopping onfreight trains and worked many places, mostly in the oil fields. He wasin his twenties before he saw his father again. In the meantime, hisfather had married two more times.

After Forrest and Vera were married, he worked at the InternationalHarvester plant in Canton. The ends of two fingers were smashed in anaccident there. Because the wounds were not properly cleaned, he gotLock Jaw. He was one of the lucky ones who was able to survive. Afterthat, he worked at Fairview Colleries strip mine at Fairview, Illinois,as a welder. He next worked for his father in the well drillingbusiness. However, his father didn't think he needed to pay Forrestbecause he was a son. This was almost disastrous for Forrest's family sohe obtained a job as a welder at R. G. LeTourneau Company (later known asLeTourneau-Westinghouse) in Peoria, Illinois. He worked here until hisretirement at age 65. His retirement income was supplemented by cuttingand trimming lawns. He was very proud of his work and a little praisewould make him work that much harder.

He suffered a heart attack shortly after Vera's death. Then he startedlooking for a second wife because he felt he needed someone to take careof him. He married Annie Dixon of Petersburg, Virginia. After that hesuffered two more heart attacks, the second of which he did not survive.

Forrest married Vera Lavona BATH on 14 Dec 1935 in Palmyra, Marion, Mo. Vera was born on 16 Jan 1905 in St. David, Fulton, Il. She died on 11 Apr 1977 in Peoria, Peoria, Il.

For several years, Vera had a bone marrow disease named Myofibromatosis, which turned to Leukemia at the very end and was the cause of her death.Vera grew up on a farm near St. David, Illinois. She attended gradeschool in Dumferline, Illinois, and graduated from Canton High School in1924. For many years she worked at the F.W. Woolworth store in Canton.
Vera was a member of the First Christian Church in Canton, but attendedthe Free Methodist Church. Her Christian faith was very important, especially in the last ten years of her life when she suffered greatpain, but never complained. Her spleen had enlarged to about a gallonsize and must have been very uncomfortable. It could not be removed because her bone marrow was not making new blood and the spleen had to take that over. She had a dream of leaving each of her five children $1,000. About one week before her death, the last of the $5,000 was deposited in her account. This money was saved from her social security by doing without things for herself. She was then ready to go to her heavenly home.
In December 1974, Vera Bath Rogers wrote the following about her life andfamily.
"My grandfather, Abraham Bath, Sr., was born in Blackwood, England, on December 23, 1835. He was one of six sons and four daughters of Isaac and Ann Bath. My grandfather and two brothers came to America in 1863.
Abraham, Sr., married Lucinda Packer in Canton, Illinois. She already had a son, James Phillips, from a previous marriage.
Before they were married long, Abraham went back to England for a stay of 2 years. While he was away, Lucinda gave birth to a daughter, but gave it to another family for care, after she was unable to provide care.
Upon his return, Abraham tried to get the little girl, Mary Ann, back. Four more children were born to them: William, Abraham, Jr., Ann Elizabeth, and Alva. Lucinda died at the age of 37 from a tumor operation. Lacking adequate hospital facilities, the operation was performed on a kitchen table, but the doctor was unable to save her life.
My father was Abraham, Jr., who was born in Missouri on Nov. 8, 1873. His family moved from Missouri to Bryant, Illinois, and then to St. David, Illinois.
Abraham married Lenore Benham on Dec. 24, 1898. They lived on a far near St. David. To this union was born nine children, the first two being twins both dying at birth.
Abraham, Sr., was a coal miner who traveled quite a bit before his marriage."
