The following family history of the Samuel N. Lindsey was taken from:"Kitsap County History, A Store of Kitsap County and Its Pioneers"Complied by Kitsap Co. Historical Society Book Committee. @ 1977
When Samuel N. and Hattie (Fowler) Lindsey arrived in Tracyton in1918 they rented part of an old hotel which had housed the post office, store and wine room. The structure was not being used as a hotel at thetime.
Eva Colvin, third daughter of the Lindseys recalls that there was afeedstore on the dock and a barber shop and the boat stopped three timesa day. There was a boardwalk from the foot of the hill (where the boatramp is now) all the way to the top of the hill. A wooden bridge crossedthe little creek at the crossroads by the Joe Sackman place the hotelproperty.
At the time there were few streets in Tracyton and the town consistedof the post office and the E.E. Riddell's store.
The only way to get back and forth to PSNS was by boat. Althoughthere was a very narrow road from Tracyton to Manette and there one tookthe shuttle ferry owned by Harry and Alvin Hansen.
Mrs. Colvin recalls that stores began to spring up in 1928 with onelarge store in the Walter Deathridge home and built later at the cornerat the cross roads. By that time the wagon trail roads had widened andmore cars were coming into the area.
A grange hall at the shore end of the dock burned and the presentgarage was built. (This is now known as the community hall.) Katie andHerbert Brookman owned the second store (where the tavern is) Mrs.Edwards built the store now stored by Grakeys. (This taken from 1967family history)

68. Kate D. ROGERS (Sarah Francis DEAL , Francis DEAL , Peter DEAL , Francis , Peter , John ) was born on 8 Jun 1867.

The obituary for Kate Rogers says she was living in Pleasant Grove,Utah, at the time of the death of her father, James Phillips Rogers. Ihave been told that both children were adopted.

Kate married Henry B. MCCABE on 21 Jan 1893 in Topeka, Ks. Henry was born on 29 Aug 1861. He died on 2 Dec 1934.

In his book, Forrest Rogers tells of visiting his grandmother who livedin Grand Junction, Colorado, with her daughter, Kate, and son-in-law,Henry, who ran barber shop next to their house. The obituary for HenryMcCabe says he was "of Seneca, Kansas."

Henry and Kate had the following children:

Charles Rogers, my grandfather, had a water well drilling business whichat times was very profitable. However, he had a problem with keepingmoney. Consequently, he was usually "broke." I remember that for manyyears he had a small dog named Yukon and that the dog was always with himwhen he came to our house. He gave us our dog, Brownie, on my 9thbirthday. Grandpa had an emergency appendectomy when he was in his80's. He was a large man who lived to the age of 90. He used to talkabout the number of days he would have lived when he reached the age 90.It was his goal to reach that landmark. At the time of his death, helived alone in a one room house on Sanborn Street in Knoxville.

Mrs. Martha A. Parr Sprinkle was his second wife. She had children froma previous marriage. Mrs. Jimmie Wiley, 3rd wife, was from Kentucky. She went back there when she left Charles Rogers. Jimmie, as she wascalled, had children from another marriage. I believe she was related tothe Downey and Downard families.

Charles joined Presbyterian Church, Knoxville, Illinois, December 20,1891. Profession of Faith and Baptism -- suspended roll.

Geneva Louise, eight years, Charlotte, six years and Forrest, four years of age, also three sisters and one brother, who are Mrs. W. R.Hitchens of Galesburg, Mrs. H. C. Jones, Martha M. and Fred E. Wilkes ofKnoxville. On November 24, 1894, she was united in marriage to CharlesRogers of Knoxville and has since made that city her home. Besides herimmediate relatives she leaves a large number of friends who will bepained to learn of her sudden death. Mrs. Rogers was sick only six daysand her ailments at first thought to be trivial, quickly developed intopneumonia.

In the home she will be sadly missed, especially by the mother, who hasbeen with her always, and who is in delicate health. With her during herlast illness were the mother, Mrs. Hitchens and the husband. All thatloving care could do was done, but grim death claimed his victim and theloved ones can only mourn.
