Hi,
I just read your post listed with the Hickory County inquiries on the usgenweb site for Missouri.
My great great grandmother is Dorcas Cook, daughter of John Cook and Martha E. I don't know if you would be interested in any of the information that I have on her. She married an Irenas Taylor, then George Zimmerman. Dora (as she was called) and George had a daughter, Sara Catherine, who married a Charles Burch, and they were the parents of my grandmother, Pauline Burch.
I don't have any information about John Cook, his wife or Dora's siblings. This is going to sound pretty unbelievable, but I just found Dora in the census with her family about 10 minutes before I discovered your posting! Genealogy is so much fun : )Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Sharon Burch Rash1840 census

George W 2/5/ 1838-1848I sent an email to desc. of Ansell Cook. Here is his reply (3/28/2004):
Dear Sandra,
In regards to your question about the rail road, I do not know, however, just maybe the other addressee, who are descended from Ancell Cook and his wife Anne E. Brewen, may have some insight. I have looked at City Directories for Baker, Oregon for 1900, and it shows Cook, Ancel as being in the wood business. Not lumber, but making things and repairing same. I have forwarded your emil to another cousin, a George Strawbridge of California who is related from the Cook's, also. In addition I will forward your email to a Stokes Bailey, that is another cousin and his cousin Carla French. They were both born and raised, and Stokes still lives within 12 miles of where Elijah came from, Firpine, North Carolina. Back there are many of the family members buried.
In Harper Cemetery, close by Quincy, Hickory County, Missouri is buried the father and two brothers to Ancel, his father spelled it Ansel, so it was up to the enumerator. Those burial sites are dated 1848. There is a good chance that they are related, your Cook and our Cook families. I am sure that George will know for sure.
In the next few days, you and the rest of us will know more, I am sure.
Thanking you very much.
Sincerest regards,
Jon Shumaker
